Well, today is some armistice day where they remember the end of world war 1. Yeah... for the past week or two, there were many people wearing some flower pin badge or something... kinda like wearing a red ribbon to support cancer victims or aids research or something else... Like one of those lance armstrong yellow bands... yeah... but this was a flower... i asked one of them what it was. and the reply was that it was to support british servicemen... and i only realise yesterday, that the flower was actually a poppy flower!... i guess soldiers like drugs and cocain, or whatever... anyway, I din really bother, i mean... i too have worn one of those ribbons... a white and green one if i remember correctly... but i forgot what it was for... i only remembered that it was compulsory in my school... haha.. maybe singapore should have something like that to honour our national servicemen too... aka NSmen like me!!! ... haha... just joking... i really, honestly, truely pray that i, or anyone of us singaporeans, will never have to die for our country... people and history tend to glorify death and sacrifice for king and/or country... but to me, there is no honour in death... a dead hero is, afterall, dead... his name, his legends and his stories may live on in history, but he is still dead, he is no more... "dying for a cause is honourable, living for a cause makes more sense"- benjamin goh (1985- )... hahahahahahahaha... hmmm... i just quoted myself... was that self-plagiarism?.. hmm....
OK... today is the 11th of november... armistice day, which i honestly did not know... so went with the evelyn gardens people to portobello market... the pictures are below... and on the way there, I saw 4 air force fighters flying pass my head at low altitude in a really tight diamond formation... they looked like euro-fighters... the ones RSAF almost bought before deciding on the F-15s... yeah, anyway, they flew really low, really slow (i know because they did not produce a lot of noise) and really really close together... 2 metres apart?? maybe... so i went like wow!! that was so cool!! ... I still did not know that it was armistice day... later on... i learnt that every year, in britain... at 11 am on the 11th of november (11th month) they observe 2 minutes of silence... yup, 2 mins and not the usual 1 min of silence... to honour the war dead i believe... ok... so i missed it... but i have no reason to care for british war dead... it was WW1 afterall, where singapore was hardly affected... so maybe next year... At 11.11.11 ... i shall remember to remember about the war dead... yeah...
About the poppy badges... if i am not wrong... they are sold to public (for publicity) and the funds collected are used to help british servicemen and ex-servicemen as well as their families... it is organised by some charitable organisation and planned to coincide with armitice day...
And portobello market is a street market with many many stalls. sells lots of stuff... nice stuff... but honestly quite useless... just looks pretty. there are stalls which sell coats and jackets for like 10 quid... you may question the quality but it looks good to me... however, most of the stalls are rather over-priced... perhaps, bargaining is necessary... but i dun know... i like the food stalls though... interesting foods... dun mind going back there again... they do have some really cool stuffs there...
